Testimonials
“There’s no place like home, but I would rather be here than anywhere else. Everyone here is so kind and generous. I have been to other places to live but this was the best one I had ever seen! Everything they want, they get for you. I am able to keep PJ here and everyone helps to take care of her. I have a lot of pain and had difficulty being independent and now I still have pain, but feel independent. I have choices, I can go shopping and I enjoy the activities.” – Irene Collins & PJ (her canine companion) 11/30/2009
“We love it here. The staff and other people are always nice to talk to, but I know I also have privacy when I need it. The food is wonderful; which is something we never would have been able to do at home alone. Someone is here 24 hours a day and we always feel safe; that is one of the most important things to us. We were aging and not as healthy as we wanted, so we needed to feel safe. I (Connie) was unable to shop due to physical limitations before I lived here and now I can shop and have fun doing it. We are able to relax and enjoy our lives together, just like it should be. We are able to have physician appointments made for us and transportation t the appointments. That takes a lot of worry off of our minds. The community is beautiful with lovely flowers outside and wonderful views from inside our apartment. We also love the library; which we work in to keep it organized. We have also been able to stay involved with our community lobbying for new large print books! Our biggest fear was being separated from one another due to our different problems, but here we can stay together and that is something you can’t express how grateful we are for.” – Harold & Constance Becker 11/03/2009
“We just love it here. It’s home. We love that there are always people to talk with so we never feel lonely, but when we do want our privacy we have that option with our own apartment.” – Connie B. Age: 73
“I enjoy playing bingo and my husband and I love to attend story hour. We often talk and sing songs with other residents after the story. It’s a great opportunity to build friendships!” – Connie B. Age: 73
“I was hesitant about moving out of my home but since I’ve lived here at Hickory Grove, everyone has been so kind and helpful to me. They are just good people here and they really do help me when I need it.” – Helen V. Age: 94
“Being able to live in a facility such as Hickory Grove is a fortunate opportunity. Residents are very friendly, and make me feel welcome. It’s easy to fit right in. There’s a large variety of activities and resources that give me plenty of chances to socialize with others. From being in the library, to playing bingo, there is always something to do! We also have the chance to be involved in community programs, such as Food for Thought. The opportunity to help the community is so important to me. We are well taken care of by all staff. If it wasn’t for Hickory Grove, I do not know how I would have lived my life. Now I don’t have to worry.” – Norma H., Age: 79
